The New Neighbour — Yeni Komşu

Ayşe has a new flat in Manchester. It is small, but it is nice. She is a nurse at a nearby hospital.

Every morning, she hears a voice. The voice says, "Günaydın!" That is Turkish for "Good morning." Ayşe is very happy. "My neighbour is Turkish!" she thinks.

On Sunday, she makes some börek. She knocks on the neighbour's door. An old woman opens it. Her name is Mrs Brown. "Hello! I'm your new neighbour," says Ayşe. "Are you Turkish, Mrs Brown?" Mrs Brown laughs. "No, dear, I'm English."

Then a voice says, "Günaydın!" Ayşe looks around the room. There is a big green parrot in a cage! "This is Pasha," says Mrs Brown. "My old neighbour was Turkish." "Pasha can say ten Turkish words."

Ayşe gives the börek to Mrs Brown. "Afiyet olsun!" says Pasha. Now Ayşe has two new friends.
